the give ten badge is here

.

are you ready to give ten? or, feel like raising awareness for the cause?

we’ve created the give ten badge for you to use on your web sites, blogs, facebook pages etc.  to show your support for the project. simply copy and paste the following html code:

<div align=”center”><a href=”http://www.givetenproject.org” target=”_blank”><img border=”0″ width=”150″ src=”http://www.givetenproject.org/images/givetenproject.png” height=”133″/></a></div>

be nice.

i’ve seen operation nice before–and recently stumbled upon it again. their purpose certainly aligns with the give ten project and our mission. here’s theirs:

Don’t you love it when people go out of their way to be nice? Like when someone waits to hold the door for you. Or when a stranger waves you into a line a traffic. Or even when a coworker shoots you a friendly smile along with a “have a nice day.” If everyone was a little bit nicer to the folks they encountered each day, perhaps the world would be a more pleasant place. Operation NICE was initiated to remind you that a little NICE goes a long way
.

I was reminded of how nice “nice” can be when I awoke to a hubby cheerfully taking care of the children, laundry and breakfast so I could sleep in yesterday (and the day before!).

So how about you? Has someone been nice to you lately?

it’s starting…

“I saw your post on Flickr about the give ten project and then again on Deb’s post on Facebook. I was originally planning in September to do a set of mini-sessions with a portion of the session fee going to Rainbow House locally to help families coming to town for medical treatments for their children ( a charity that served us in 2007 before we made a permanent relocation to Omaha to be closer to Children’s Hospital). Since finding out about the Give Ten Project I have decided to dedicate the entire month of September with 10% of print profits going to Rainbow House….I am really excited about this chance to give back to Rainbow House for all they do for families at a difficult time.”

zack arias’ call to action

we love zack’s call to action, to serve with your camera, and we thought we’d highlight it here!

zack provides a specific timeline, beginning next week and ending the week of september 30th. it’s a timeline to not only help get you motivated, but also keep you on track.  here’s zack’s call to action:

• Week of August 31st – You have now identified a few families, organizations, ministries, etc that you think could use some of your picture taking skills. You start emailing, calling, knocking on doors. You have seven days to get yourself and your camera in the door and pitch your service. Not everyone will need you. Some will reject free stuff! Who cares? Move. On. Dot. Org. with it and knock on the next door.

• Week of September 7th – You have this week to get your schedule figured out and get some sort of service job on the books. I don’t care if you have a day job and 14 million kids. If you are so tied up in stress and anxiety about your passion for this craft AND you aren’t doing anything about it then your job is suffering and your 14 million kids are suffering because while you may be present in person your mind is kept busy thinking about all the photo stuff you aren’t doing.

Just tell the kiddos that “Mommy/Daddy needs to follow her/his heart for at least one day before Mommy/Daddy implodes.” A happy Mommy/Daddy makes for a happy house. If your job sucks a$$ you can make it through the day knowing that you have a project that has purpose and meaning tied to it unlike the TPS reports you are filing. Your kids can say one of two things when they grow up…

“I watched my Mom/Dad be miserable.”

“I watched my Mom/Dad serve people with what they had.”

Pick one.

This isn’t just a self serving “I need to make $50, $100, $200 shooting portraits of middle class families in the park” kind of project. It is something that serves someone or a group of people in need of being served. Keep that in mind… You are going to use your camera to “serve” someone so you can stop staring into your own damn naval because at the end of the day, this project isn’t about you. I mean, it sort of is about you but it isn’t at the same time. You need to get off your butt and do something but the “you” part of this will soon fade when you see what you are doing for others.

• Week of September 14th – September 30th – Get the job done, edited, and delivered. You only get a pass if the project you are now pursuing can only be best served in a timeframe that doesn’t meet this deadline. If you have someone or some group on the line for a project but it has to be shot at X date then you are doing fine. But that’s your only pass.

you can read more about zack’s call to action, here, on his blog.

and if you haven’t seen zack’s dope, soap & hope video yet, i’ve attached it below. it’s awesomely inspiring!

give ten

we thought we’d share our mission statement with you. it’s simple, really.

give ten: 10 percent of your time and profits to causes greater than yourself.

it’s a whisper to anyone who’s listening – starting with photographers around the globe. give ten. give it selflessly. give it joyfully. you *can* do it. not sure where to start? how about by giving something? the links on the right are just a few starting points. give with your camera. give with your wallet. it’s simple, gratifying and freeing.

once you start, you’ll never work the same way again. so, stop just doing business — and start giving business.

are you with us?

welcome to the give ten project

“The love we give away is the only love we keep” Elbert Hubbard

We had such a favorable response to the concept of the give ten project, we felt it needed its own space on the web. The idea is still so fresh, we’re working hard to figure things out…what specifically we want to accomplish, how we’ll get the word out, what we’ll share here, how often, etc.

But one thing is for certain, this is a small idea with hopes to make a big difference. From two to many. From our doorsteps to yours.

So pardon our dust (or rather, our creativity as Deb would say)…we’re under construction, building a foundation for good things to come.

No one’s too small to give big. Pass it on.
